Air-Fryer Green Beans

One base method for crisping green beans, then swap the seasoning each night. I worked these out in a convection toaster oven; a basket air fryer runs a bit different — notes below.

Ingredients

Per portion (scales up — just keep them in a single layer):

Steps

Part 1: Prep ahead

Part 2: Cook

Convection toaster oven:

Basket air fryer (untested here): same method, but shake once or twice since the beans sit in a solid basket. Air fryers crisp faster and more evenly, so try 400°F and start checking around 8 min.

Flavorings

Pick one per batch. Before = toss on with the oil before cooking. After = off the heat once they’re done.

Smoky paprika-cumin — bold, earthy

Verdict: Amazing, I could eat this every day.

Lemon-oregano-garlic — bright, herby

Verdict: Also amazing and I could eat this every day.

Cumin-lime — warm and tangy (UNTESTED)

Soy — mild, savory

Verdict: This was fairly mild but good. In the recipe above I increased the mustard powder to try and make it more interesting.

Chili-flake — smoky and hot (UNTESTED)

Sesame-soy — nutty, savory

Verdict: This was much better than soy and mustard! I used Aleppo flakes, but that wasn’t spicy enough.

Harissa — complex, a little spicy

Verdict: I did a heaping 1/4 tsp and it wasn’t quite flavorful enough for me. Next time I’ll try more.
